About Me

Thank you for visiting my page. I have been a therapist and counselor for over eight years and continue to remain passionate about helping others through difficult circumstances.

I have experience working with a wide variety of populations including counseling with children, couples, and families.  My clinical experiences include counseling in the school setting, in-home counseling, crisis centers, non-profit organizations and private practice settings.

Therapeutic approaches vary according to the goals of each client.  Psychological interventions that influence my work are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-focused Couples Therapy, EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy  and the Gottman Method for couples.  Psycho-educational aspects of therapy are also used, such as teaching relaxation skills, mindfulness, feelings identification, physiological effects of stress, communication techniques, and behavioral strategies.  With children, I primarily use play therapy techniques, yet oftentimes will integrate them into family therapy.

Please feel free to contact me at (787) 414-3048 or km@katherinemalavenda.com if you have further questions.
